Published since 1964, Winterthur Portfolio provides insight and analysis into Americas rich heritage by publishing articles on the arts in America and the historical context within which they developed. Art, in this context, is used in its broadest sense and includes all the material objects of human ingenuity that satisfy functional, aesthetic, or symbolic needs. WPs articles highlight research from Americas early colonial period through the twentieth century and present a diversity of innovative perspectives on American material culture with findings from various disciplines such as literature, decorative arts, ethnology, American studies, folk studies, art history, cultural history, archaeology, cultural geography, architecture, anthropology, and social, intellectual, and technological histories.
